Painting Blue Florals

Painting in one colour can be a great way to help improve your paintings. It allows you to focus and concentrate on your style and form rather than having to think about what colours would work well together.

For this painting, I focused on one large flower in the centre and added two smaller flowers surrounded by leaves and watercolour washes.

I chose to use my favourite Caran D'Ache gouache palette as well as a concentrated watercolour from Dr Ph. Martin's in Juniper Green. The concentrated watercolour just adds a bright boost to the paint, but by mixing it with gouache I can get a deeper moodier colour.

I mostly used the greens, blues, grey and black from my gouache palette, simply to deepen or lighten the shades.
