Questions
Before you begin
Still wondering? Here are the questions I'm asked most about PETAL.
Is PETAL suitable for beginners?
Yes. PETAL is for any level. We start with simple petals and build up slowly, and outlines are provided to guide you.
Are inks just for professionals?
Not at all, inks are for everyone! It really doesn't matter how long you've been painting. I'm a self-taught artist, and for a long time I was too nervous to try inks myself. I thought they were only for professionals. But as soon as I picked them up, they completely transformed my work, and painting felt freer and more joyful than ever. In PETAL I'll show you just how approachable they are, one petal at a time.
What supplies do I need?
My full supply list is included in the class, so you'll know exactly which inks, brushes and paper I use. But you don't need to buy everything! If you already have some inks, I'll show you how to create beautiful paintings with the ones you own, alongside a few basic watercolours. And if you're starting fresh, just one or two colours of any brand is plenty to begin.
Do I need to be able to draw?
Not at all. Outlines are provided to help guide you, so you can focus on enjoying the ink.
How long do I have access?
You get instant access as soon as you join, and lifetime access, so you can revisit and refine at your own pace.
How long is the class?
Over three hours of lessons, across 11 lessons in four chapters. Many lessons are short, so it's easy to paint in small pockets of time.
Can I use inks with water?
Yes, and that's how we use them in PETAL. I show you exactly how much water to use in the All About Inks video, and every question about inks is answered inside the class.
Will inks reactivate once they're dry?
Some do and some don't, depending on the type of ink. The E-book and video explain the difference, so you'll know what to expect from the inks you have.
What's the difference between inks?
There are two main types, dye-based and pigment-based, and I walk you through both in the class. You don't need to know any of this before you start.
Which inks should I buy?
Just start with one or two colours of any brand. You don't need a big collection. I share my favourites inside the class if you'd like to add more later.
What if it's not right for me?
I really want you to love PETAL! As it's a digital class and you get instant access to everything the moment you join, I'm not able to offer refunds. But if anything isn't feeling right, please just reach out. I'm always happy to help. You can read the full details in my Terms and Conditions.
